I decided to make her a Tutu and Princess crown and searched the internet for instructions. I found a cute little thing at the fabric store that I think will work for a magic wand.
We will see.
Naturally I never thought to ask my daughter in law if she already has something like this, so I messaged her this morning to ask her. So while I await her answer I thought that I would confess to be a slightly demented grandmother and ask your opinion of this mess.
The crown is made of the foam sheets with a plastic canvas sheet in between the 2 sheets of foam. I sewed all the baubles onto the front foam and the canvas foam before gluing it all together, I wanted to make sure that the baubles would not come off easily to be put in little mouth, nose or ears.
The whole ensemble.

On a different note we were lucky enough to meet some of the blogs long time readers who live in California. The wife is from Guaymas and is married to the gentleman from California and they reside there. They came down to spend some time with her family over the holidays and they came over for coffee and sweets one day.
After reading my posts about Aconchi and Ures they decided to make a trip up there also and enjoyed the hot springs at Aconchi and stayed in the same hotel we did in Ures. They enjoyed their little side trip and were nice enough to bring us a bag of peanuts.
They also brought pastries to have with our coffee and along with some raisin tarts that I had made we had lots to eat.
We had a nice visit and they may return for another coffee before they head back up north and back to work.
A nice meeting.

Magical. That is the best word for it.
Precious, brilliant and thoughtful are also good words for it.
What fun to meet one of your readers too.
No girl can have to many tiaras, magic wands or tutus. You are a very special grandma to make these things for her. I hope she keeps them forever.
Steve and Shannon, I like your words better than my "crazy" lol. Thanks. Yes, it was nice to meet one of my readers, we have also been emailing for a year or so and it was like we already knew each other. Nice.
Welcome peter and Shelagh: Thanks, I hope she enjoys them. Not ever having a daughter I am a bit out of it on the girlie type things. A learning curve for me.
Brenda,
I love dress up, in my opinion there isn't a better gift than something which inspires imaginative play.
You did a wonderful job on everything.I love the fabric on the tutu.
Tutus are very "in" right now.Your granddaughter will be thrilled to have one (especially one that is so pretty!).
My daughter started making them because the ones available were so poorly made, now she has a biz Never Tutu Many making tutus and hair bows. Check out the tutu dresses, that could be your next project.
regards,
Theresa
Thanks Theresa. I actually have her page bookmarked on my Facebook and see when she posts something new. I had thought of ordering from her; but decided that it might mean more if I made it myself.
The dresses are cute on her page.
Brenda,
It does mean more when you make it! Especially these days, besides I love the tulle you used.
I have pinterest page where I put stuff that I am thinking about making for the girls and my daughter has one labeled "Mom make this" where she put ideas that she runs across. That way I have an idea of the kind of stuff she wants. I don't necessarily make the exact thing but I am "inspired". So many projects so little time!
I am looking at felt food as my next big project. I love all the things you can make out of felt.
regards,
Theresa
Theresa, yes too many projects not enough time.
I have a PinInterest page also; but I don't go to it very often as I end up spending way too much time looking around on there and not getting done what I want to do. lol I am easily occupied lol.
What a good idea for the two of you to have pages like that. Hmmmm
Going into the fabric store here is scary for me as I so many possibilities in the stuff they carry lol and not enough energy to do it all.
I looked at the regular tulle and it seemed just too stiff for a little girl and liked this stuff as I had already bought the gold foam for the crown, always the cart before the horse with me lol. My colour preference would have been blue; but these colours are more ROYAL lol lol and she is, of course, a natural princess lol.
Lots of fun.
I have 3 daughters so I think that qualifies me as -ahem- something of an expert on girls. *grin* I can assure you that anything Princess-y is always a hit. And the favourite colour of every little girl I've ever met is purple.
Very cool gift, Brenda.
That helps, Barb. I was never a "girly, girl" lol, more of a tom boy really. I spent more time with my brothers and boy cousins than with girls also so that didn't help either.
Purple and yellow are not my favorite colours or pink, I lean to blues or greens when I get away from black and white lol.
I just thought that yellow/gold and purple are more royal colours lol.
Hope she likes it anyway. I think she will.
I know she will. ;)
Edna and I are having fun with our new sewing machine and I think some tutu's for our 3 yr old grandaughter would be great! And you're right Brenda, I did feel like I actually knew you two when we met you in Guaymas last month. And for the record, we have been emailing for 2 1/2 years! Can you believe it?
Hi Doug, wow, has it been that long that we have been emailing. It was really nice to meet you two and hope to see more of you again on your next trip down.
I think your grand daughter would love a Tutu and the one I made is NO SEW so is even easier!!
So what are you making with the sewing machine? Not that I need any new ideas for projects lol.
